Leicester Ripe Enough For Top Four Now

Leicester wins Community Shield cup after defeating Man City last week Saturday
It is no longer a shock when Leicester City handle the big guns, and beat them. It is becoming a norm and careful investment, sometimes frugal, has been key in the team maintaining its balance even when losing key players. This is another season of touching the great heights for the Leicestershire club and after the win over Manchester City in the Community Shield it will be hard to argue that Brendan Rodgers’ side isn’t on the right path.
Even after losing top stars, including Riyad Mahrez, Ben Chilwell, Ngolo Kante and more, the team doesn’t seem shaken and the top players have well been replaced while also fending off overtures from top clubs. Leicester have come of age and after narrowly missing top four finishes the last two seasons, this time they look fit to mount a stronger challenge.
Apart from the Premier League, they will be taking part in at least three other competitions – League Cup, FA Cup and Europa League, with the WinComparator website lining up the odds for these and more competitions.
In a league that competitors are spending huge amounts to shop for top talent, Leicester have managed to stay competitive with a lean budget, only going for the right players after careful scouting. They beat Manchester City in the Community Shield days after the Premier League champions confirmed a £100m signing of Jack Grealish, and that says a lot.
It says even more that the man who scored the winner in that game, Kelechi Iheanacho, was deemed surplus to requirement at Manchester City. The Nigerian international has benefitted from years of patience and growth at Leicester and after a fine scoring run last season, he doesn’t seem to relent.
Another Nigerian, Wilfred Ndidi continues to have a key contribution to the team. His defensive performances in midfield can’t be overlooked and the versatility in his game is what any top team would wish to have. He isn’t injury prone and always gives a top performance.
Leicester have an edge in the return of Harvey Barnes after a horrific injury earlier in the season. He has done well in preseason and was lively in the Community Shield. If he can stay injury free, he will definitely be among the big impact players for Brendan Rodgers.
Then there is the case of James Maddison and the interest from Arsenal, with a number of media outlets claiming he is open to a move to the Emirates. Financially, it may be a viable move, for him and for Leicester, but there will be very few arguing points as to whether he will be able to grow as an individual and as a team player. A move to Arsenal is sideways, if not backward and the player has been made to know that, while Leicester aren’t keen on selling as well.
Their investment in the playing unit is spread across many windows, with an eye on long term success. The strategy at Leicester seems pretty clear to understand; that the game isn’t about spending insane amounts, or having super rich ownership. It is about having the right manager, fostering teamwork and developing talent. With these tenets, you can expect the Foxes to break into the top four this season
